MSUM Physics and Astronomy Seminar Series Presents:

Driving to Root Cause
Using Scientific Training and Analytical Thinking to Solve Industrial Problems

By William Cooper, Technical Manager and Heather Jarski, Lab Manager

Friday, April 4
3-3:50 p.m.
325 Hagen Hall

In industry today, problem solving is guided by a number of tools that are developed for the specific purpose of helping the problem solvers focus on the variables that may be relevant to the problem. Analytical scientific training, on the other hand, can reduce the need for many of these problem-solving tools through an understanding of how things work at fundamental levels. We will discuss some examples that describe how scientific training has helped determine the root cause of real industry issues. We will also discuss some of the analytical instrumentation that is used to gather the data that helps support or negate hypotheses when driving to root cause.
