Rethinking Our Learning Environments

During the month of April, the Faculty Development Center is offering a program called “Rethinking Our Learning Environments” (ROLE), a series of small group conversations designed to help us prepare to move forward in providing the best education for our students.

All ROLE groups will examine the idea of increasing academic student engagement through learner-centered courses, yet each group will also be distinct by identifying a theme to attract specific categories of instructors and courses.

Consider joining a ROLE group to determine where your courses fall on a learner-centered spectrum, identify resources and barriers to moving along this spectrum in a positive direction, and recommend ways our campus can nurture and grow a culture that encourages academic student engagement.

Participants will receive a copy of the book Developing Learner-Centered Teaching: A Practical Guide for Faculty by Phyllis Blumberg, an additional book chosen from a list recommended by the ROLE leaders, and a ticket to an upcoming campus event.

All faculty and staff are welcome to join a group! To view the ROLE group leaders, themes, and meeting times, visit the link included in this notice and consider signing up for a group by noon on Thursday, April 3.
