Flood prep for the campus
We’ve done this before…President Edna invariably gets a laugh whenever she tells her audience that, during her three years at the helm, she’s been dealt annual budget cuts–and floods. It helps to have a sense of humor. It also helps to be prepared and the campus is using its experiences in 2009 (the current record with a crest of almost 41 feet) and 2010 to fine-tune this year’s response.
As before, we will work closely with the city and county to support the flood fight. When the need arises, volunteers will be dispatched from Nemzek Fieldhouse on the east side of the campus to sandbag sites around the city.
When that will happen depends on the spring thaw–and with the amount of moisture in the region waiting to drain into waterways, the pace of the thaw and additional rain or snowfall could mean the difference between a manageable flood and another one for the history books.
In the meantime, we are encouraging our campus community to sign up for e2Campus, an emergency notification system that communicates with subscribers by email, text, phone call or web.
