Jeff Goebel receives MnSCU’s Outstanding Service Award

2010 awards for excellence in management announced by Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system

Awards recognizing excellence in financial and facilities management leadership and teamwork at the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities during 2010 were announced Thursday.

The awards program, which began in 1997, publicly recognizes the outstanding contributions of the system’s college and university employees who work in finance and facilities management.

“We are proud that we have so many outstanding employees,” said Laura King, the system’s vice chancellor and chief financial officer. “With their leadership and the assistance of every employee at every Minnesota state college and university, tremendous progress continues in finance, facilities and administrative excellence.”

The 2010 award winners were selected from nominations made by presidents and college and university leadership. The awards and their recipients are:

Outstanding Service awards are given to individuals who demonstrated outstanding contributions toward furthering professionalism in financial management or other contributions in financial reporting, data integrity, internal controls, budget development and monitoring, or for outstanding contributions toward furthering professionalism in facilities management. The winners are Ron Anderson and Bonnie Meyers, both of Century College; Stephanie Hammitt, Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College; Steven Smith, Minnesota State University, Mankato; Jeff Goebel, Minnesota State University Moorhead; Dawn Reimer, North Hennepin Community College; and Steve Lange, Pine Technical College.

Excellence in Financial Management awards are given for significant contributions to increased efficiency and effectiveness of finances and administrative services throughout the institution. This year’s winners are:

Bemidji State University; Hennepin Technical College; Minneapolis Community and Technical College; Minnesota State Community and Technical College; Minnesota State College – Southeast Technical; Minnesota State University, Mankato;  Riverland Community College; St. Cloud State University; St. Cloud Technical and Community College; Saint Paul College; and Winona State University.

Excellence in Facilities Management awards are given for successful and timely completion of capital improvement and repair projects, increased efficiency and effective space use throughout the institution and customer service excellence to students, staff and faculty. This year’s winners are Minnesota State University, Mankato; Riverland Community College; St. Cloud State University; and Winona State University.

The Chancellor’s Award is given to an individual who demonstrated team spirit, cooperation and leadership; provided outstanding service to staff, students and the system; completed achievement above and beyond the call of duty; provided innovative solutions or championed change and nontraditional methods.

Three employees of Minnesota State Community and Technical College were selected to receive the Chancellor’s Award for their leadership and community involvement following the June tornado in Wadena. They are Patrick Nordick, chief finance officer; Matthew Sheppard, director of college facilities; and Bruce Hurt, facilities services supervisor for the Detroit Lakes campus.

The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system comprises 32 state universities, community colleges, technical colleges and combined community and technical colleges located on 54 campuses across the state. The system serves approximately 277,000 students annually in credit-based courses and another 157,000 in non-credit courses.
