Horror flick by MSUM grads wins awards and critical praise
Film to screen in Weld Hall
An award-winning feature-length psychological thriller created by two MSUM alumni will screen Thursday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. in Weld Hall’s Glasrud Auditorium on the MSUM campus.
Dawning, a film by Gregg Holtgrewe and Michael Howe, won the Silver Ace award for excellence in filmmaking at the 2010 Las Vegas Film Festival, the Best Picture award at the 2009 Rhode Island International Horror Fest, as well as Best Screenplay and Audience awards at the 2009 Solstice Film Festival. The film has been accepted into numerous film festivals across the country, and has received considerable praise from horror film critics.
Holtgrewe and Howe will judge a juried exhibition of student work Dec. 8 to 10. The filmmakers graduated from MSUM in 2000 with degrees in Speech Communications with an emphasis in film. They live in Minneapolis and make films through their own company, Wholecrue Productions.
A question and answer session follows the screening, which is free and open to the public. Go to www.dawningthemovie.com to see a trailer of the film. For more information about the juried exhibition or the screening, contact Kyja Kristjansson-Nelson at (218) 477-4624 or kyja.nelson@mnstate.edu.
