We’ll look at the options that D2L provides for creating groups and practice selective release options for Quizzes, Course Content, and Discussion based on Conditional Release to specific group types.
Online Webinars: Instruction Technology is planning a small series of webinars to introduce some of the newer tools available in D2L.
Wednesday October 7th at 8:30 – Using the Checklist Tool
Thursday October 8th at 8:30 – Using the Attendance Tool
Thursday October 9th at 8:30 – Customizing your course homepage
to include special Widgets
Checklists are a tool for Organization. Many D2L instructors already provide a listing of assignments that are due for a specific unit of instruction. The Checklist tool changes a static listing of assignments to a dynamic tool that allows students to record the completion of assignments. Other tools, such as quizzes, can be conditionally released based on the completion of a checklist. ie – Quiz 1 is not available to students until the requirements for the Unit One Checklist are met. Items could include, visiting a content page, submitting a discussion message, or submitting items to a dropbox.
The Attendance tool can track the presence and participation of students at required class events. When used by the instructor, students can use this tool to monitor and review their performance over the course of the class. The Attendance tool is not linked to the Grades tool.
A Widget is piece of customized code added to your course homepage to provide information, links or images, and more. There are two types of widgets in D2L, those that are canned D2L widgets, such as the Welcome widget or the News Widget. Custom widgets can also be created and added to a custom homepage. D2L users at MSUM have used a custom widget to create a Links to page for content that is specific to their course or to display their content information.
