Merger of Two Non-Profits at the Hjemkomst Center Open House Scheduled
The Clay County Historical Society and the Heritage Hjemkomst Interpretive Center are now officially merged to become the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County with a mission to preserve, interpret and celebrate the history and culture of Clay County and the region.
An open house to celebrate this merger of two well established organizations has been scheduled for Wednesday, July 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. with a chamber ribbon cutting to take place at 4 p.m. It’s free and open to the public.
The evening will be highlighted by a special presentation by Mark Peihl, HCS Archivist, on our new exhibit opening July 1, 2009 entitled “Two Photographers: The Works of O. E. Flaten and S. P. Wange.” Flaten and Wange were Norwegian-American photographers and HCS holds their combined negative collections of roughly 15,000 images.
The HCS name change does not affect the name of the building, the Hjemkomst Center, owned and operated by the City of Moorhead.
