Fat Girls Hiking Body Love Workshop, Group Hike to Maplewood State Park

Do you need some body positive messaging in your life? Do you love being out in nature? Fat Girls Hiking co-founder Summer Michaud-Skog is coming to campus for two events:

  • Body Love Workshop (Thursday, Sept. 28, 3-4 p.m., Women’s Center) – focuses on joyful movement, self-care, the body love spectrum and our connection with nature and ourselves. Open to students of all body types and gender identities.
  • Group Hike at Maplewood State ParkMN (Friday, Sept. 29, 2-7 p.m.) – travel with Summer and continue the discussion about body positivity in this beautiful natural setting during fall’s peak. Transportation and snacks provided. Depart from CMU parking lot at 2 p.m. Open to students of all body types and gender identities. Hike is limited to 20 participants. Registration required. This year, we celebrate the 45th anniversary of Title IX, which guarantees every student the right to an education free from discrimination based on sex. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men will experience intimate partner abuse, sexual violence, or stalking  in their lifetime. Poster-Making for Take Back the Night

The Women’s Center staff invite people to drop by the Women’s Center (Bridges 154) Tuesday and Wednesday, 9/19-20 from 3-5 p.m. to create signs for our Take Back the Night rally and march on Wednesday night. Take Back the Night supports survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence and foregrounds their voices. Students may carry the signs they make or create them for others to display at the event. Clothesline Project on display

Sept. 12-22 | Roland Dille Center for the Arts Great White Hall

The Clothesline Project will be on display throughout weekdays beginning Tuesday, Sept. 12 through Friday Sept. 22 in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts Great White Hall. Survivors of gender-based violence and their loved ones emblazon T-shirts with their stories, direct messages to their abusers, and sometimes strong imagery and leave them on display. These shirts document the prevalence of gender-based violence, aid in the healing process of survivors, and celebrate their strength and courage, often sending a message of hope to others who remain silent about their experiences.  Read the rest of this entry →

‘Yeah Maybe, No’ Film Explores Consent and Male Victims’ Experience

Originally funded by a Kickstarter campaign and now touring college campuses internationally, the documentary Yeah Maybe, No (2017) follows Blake, a young gay man who is coming to terms with a history of multiple sexual assaults. Dr. Mallen is currently a Fellow in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of South Florida’s Moffitt Cancer Center. A graduate of South High School in Fargo, she completed her M.D. at UND and her residency at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
