Politics & Women talk March 30

“Writing Women Back into Politics,” a Women’s History Month brown bag lunch presentation, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 30 in CMU 203. When we only focus on firsts and figure-heads we lose sight of why equal representation is such an important issue for the U.S. What is a jury of your peers? Who is the best person to engage in a debate on welfare and where tax money is spent? What does gender/sex have to do with it? Women’s Studies Prof. Heather Ehrichs Angell leads the discussion.

Feminist filmmakers topic of March 31 talk

A Women’s History Month presentation on “Resistance is the Secret of Joy: Feminist Images of Women in Film” will be delivered by Women’s Studies Professor Nancy Jones at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 31 in CMU 205. Miz Wizard’s Science Secrets March 23

Miz Wizard’s Science Secrets presented by Jane Curry will be held Tuesday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m. in King Hall 110. It’s free and open to the public. Barbara Knight, aka Miz Wizard, tells stories about women’s contributions to science, engineering, invention, and math; revolutionary research and media portrayals; and obstacles faced and overcome by women whose passion is discovery. TCU NEW Leadership Institute June 5-9

The Tri-College NEW (National Education for Women’s) Leadership Development Institute will be held June 5-9, 2010 at Minnesota State University Moorhead. The intensive five-day residential program is designed to provide leadership training, inspiration, and support for women who do not have extensive leadership experience. There is particular emphasis on recruiting women from groups that have typically been underrepresented voices in the political process. Click headline for more information.

A Woman’s Perspective on Work & Play Opens Monday

The Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County at the Hjemkomst Center is
proud to announce the opening of A Woman’s Perspective on Work and Play,
beginning Monday, January 25 through Tuesday, March 30. A Woman’s Perspective (AWP) is an un-juried, multimedia art exhibition,
featuring visual, literary and performing art by emerging and established
regional artists. This year’s theme is Work and Play, including a special
supplemental exhibit on art aprons as a symbol of the intersection of work and
