‘My Father’s World’ opens Nov. 28 at Rourke Art Museum

The Rourke Art Museum is presenting “My Father’s World,” an exhibit of the original prints of Kansas Swedish-American landscape artist Birger Sandzén. The exhibit of works is from the collection of Dr. James M. Kaplan, Professor Emeritus of French at MSUM, and is under the high patronage of his Excellency  Jonas Hafström, Royal Ambassador of Sweden to the United States.

Professor emeritus James Kaplan publishes book

Dr. James M. Kaplan, professor emeritus at MSUM, has published a book about Birger Sandzén, a Swedish immigrant artist who came to America in 1894. MSUM to offer Swedish course

Minnesota State University Moorhead will offer a Swedish language and culture course this fall for the first time in about 20 years. The course, taught by MSUM professor emeritus James Kaplan, will be open to MSUM students and community members.Kaplan, who retired in 2008 from MSUM as a French professor, lived and worked in Sweden and founded the Swedish Cultural Heritage Society of the Red River Valley.
