Leading up to and during Friday’s Commencement ceremonies, students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni and friends were encouraged to share their Dragon pride, congratulations and excitement on Twitter by using #MSUM2017. The hashtag was once again a success, trending on Twitter by mid-afternoon and throughout the evening. #MSUM2017 was used in 1,055 tweets that garnered nearly 760,000 impressions. Congratulations to Aidan Shafer, double major in Mathematics and Physics, who ranked in the top third of the Putnam Mathematical Competition, held on December 3, 2016. The William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition is the preeminent mathematics competition for undergraduate college students in all the United States and Canada. On the last edition there were 4,164 contestants from 568 institutions.
