Eurospring 2016 continues their studies today at Stratford-upon-Avon, visiting Shakespeare’s birthplace and seeing a production of Hamlet at the Royal Shakespeare Company. Students recently returned from their four-day Easter break, with groups traveling to Ireland, Greece, Scotland, Italy, and Spain. Coursework continues for the next two weeks, linking studies of the Renaissance to contemporary events in England and Europe.
Erin Aadland, a physics major with astronomy emphasis, has been accepted into the summer research program at the University of Notre Dame for the summer of 2016. This 10-week program will have Ms. Aadland working with Notre Dame astronomer Peter Garnavich on an observational astronomy project studying cataclysmic variable stars.
Myinoluwa Abiola, Economics major, and Dirk Jasperse, a double major in Economics and Political Science, presented at the undergraduate student sessions (IPE sessions) of the 42nd Annual Eastern Economics Association meetings in Washington, DC. On March 19th, MSUM students participating the University’s Eurospring Program joined Dr. Allan Chapman for lectures and field trips to the Neo-Lithic sites of Avebury and Stone Henge. The group also visited Salisbury Cathedral, a massive Gothic pilgrimage church that houses one of the four extant copies of the Magna Carta.
Paul Harris, HLCRWS, presented a paper on “The Freedmen’s Aid Society and the Development of Black Leadership” at the first annual meeting of the African American Intellectual History Society in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
