Moss conducts inaugural Georgia Orchestra

Kirk Moss, associate professor of music and director of orchestral activities and string education, guest conducted the inaugural Georgia All-College Orchestra on Friday, January 29. Held in Savannah in conjunction with the Georgia Music Educators Association Annual In-Service Conference, the event attracted students from ten different colleges and universities. While there, Moss also presented a showcase conference session for his publisher, Alfred Music. Entitled, “The Perfect Method Book: Fact or Fiction,” the session described Alfred’s newest method book series for school bands and orchestras. Moss is a member of the author team for the series.

MSUM, Jean Hollaar receive MnSCU’s 2009 awards for excellence in management

Awards recognizing excellence in financial and facilities management leadership and teamwork at the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities were presented recently at the system’s Chief Financial and Facilities Officers meeting in Bloomington. MSUM received an award for Excellence in Facilities Management, and Jean Hollaar, interim vice president of finance and administration, received an outstanding service award. MnSCU officials to visit places of worship, promote higher education

Ten high-ranking officials of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system will speak at places of worship this weekend to encourage more students of color and other underrepresented groups to prepare for and complete college. Their goal is to provide information and support for parents as they help their children prepare for college and to encourage adults who haven’t completed a college-level program to do so. St. Cloud Technical College name change approved by MnSCU Board

The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees today approved changing the name of St. Cloud Technical College to St. Cloud Technical and Community College. The name change, which takes effect immediately, complements the board’s decision in November to expand the mission of the college to that of a comprehensive technical and community college. The new mission will enable the college to offer the first two years of a liberal arts degree so students can transfer to a four-year institution, such as St. Cloud State University, and continue its various technical and career programs.
