MSUM Planetarium showing “Bear Tales” through March 8

The Minnesota State University Moorhead Planetarium will show “Bear Tales” Sundays at 2 p.m. and Mondays at 7 p.m. Jan. 17 through March 8. This year, astronomers are celebrating the anniversary of that event by inviting everyone to look through a telescope. “Bear Tales” follows two young astronomers at a star party as they learn how telescopes work, the history of telescopes, and the major discoveries made by these instruments. Faculty recital Jan. 14

An MSUM faculty recital feature John Tesch, trombone and Judy Dietzler, piano, will be presented Thursday, Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Weld Hall Glasrud Auditorium. It’s free and open to the public. A special appearance by Slide Show, featuring Stener Anderson, Nathaniel Dickey, Edward Huttlin and John Tesch, will also be included.

“Reclaiming” conference at MSUM Jan. 29

The Women in Action Conference Committee invites everyone to participate in the Women in Action Conference Friday, January 29 from 3 to 8 p.m. in the university’s CMU ballroom. This year’s theme is “Reclaiming” and will include a series of panels on topics that include Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Awareness, Embracing Diversity, GLBT Awareness, and Leading a Stress-Free Lifestyle. Women’s Studies presents The Group That Opened the Box

MSUM Women’s Studies proudly invites you to experience an original play written and performed by five North Dakota teens, Dr. Kathy Blohm (of Chambers & Blohm Psychological Services), and Bush Artist Fellow Karen Van Fossan (of Dragon Jane Theater Company). The Group That Opened the Box, presented Saturday, January 16 at 7 p.m. in MSUM’s Weld Hall Glasrud Auditorium, explores public silence about adolescent sexuality, desire and mental health.After the show, and with the assistance of their mentors, participants in The Group will facilitate open, truthful, public discussions of adolescent sexuality, desire, and mental health — thus giving voice to a range of experiences, and empowering teens to emerge as agents of social change.
