The Year of Magical Thinking April 22

The English Department, McGrath Visiting Writers Series and the Film Studies Department announce a special performance of Joan Didion’s play—adapted from her memoir—The Year of Magical Thinking, presented by Theatre B and featuring Mary Cochran, Thursday, April 22 from 4:30-6 p.m. in Weld Hall Auditorium. Rodgers & Hammerstein silent auction April 19-20

Minnesota Opera tickets, jewelry, car washes, artwork, handmade baby blankets, recording studio time and much more! On April 19 and 20, from noon to 4 p.m., you can bid on these items, displayed in the lobby of the Roland Dille Center for the Arts. Register for a bid number at the Box Office. Proceeds go to the Music Department Scholarship Fund. If you want to make sure you don’t get outbid by those attending the April 20 Rodgers & Hammerstein celebration, make a “Carousel” bid, and the item is yours, guaranteed! Lavender reception April 18

A Lavender reception recognizing all local LGBTQ college students and their campus Allies and Advocates will be held Sunday, April 18 at 6 p.m. at the ECCE Gallery, 216 Broadway, Fargo. Those LGBTQ graduate and undergraduate students completing their college careers will be honored as Lavender Graduates at the reception, but all LGBTQ students and allies are welcome. This is a quad college event (NDSU, Concordia, and MCTC will also participate.)

Poker Walk for Fitness today

Kyja Kristjansson-Nelson’s Sveit to exhibit at Wisconsin film festival

Kyja Kristjansson-Nelson’s experimental documentary, Sveit, will be exhibited at the 2010 Wisconsin Film Festival. Sveit will screen at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 17 at Madison’s Play Circle Theatre. A geneography of memory and place, Sveit was shot in a rural village on the north coast of Iceland. The filmmaker traces her family’s history and emigration from Iceland to the United States, while unpacking memories and stories of her grandfather’s experience as a New American in North Dakota.
