The university is being awarded a silver ranking in the “Sustainability Tracking and Rating System” … or STARS. The system looks at all sorts of areas including the school’s carbon footprint, recycling, and sustainability based classes.
Teresa Shume, School of Teaching and Learning; Biosciences Department, presented a research paper entitled “Elementary Teachers’ Conceptions of Environmental Literacy” at the international meeting of the Association for Science Teacher Education in San Antonio, Texas.
Today (Tuesday, Jan. 21) from 1 to 4:30 p.m. in the Office of Sustainability, Hagen 111, will be an open house to celebrate the Sustainability Tracking and Rating System (STARS) placing MSUM in the “Silver” category for sustainability. Joshua Gates, Political Science Cum Laude, Spring 2013, landed a prestigious summer internship with the Curatorial Office of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, working with the museum’s exhibitions, acquisitions, and the national collection. This fall he’ll attend the University of (Newark) Delaware to pursue a master’s degree in historic preservation and a certificate in museum studies.
There’s still time to register for ANTH 390, Tanzanian Society & Culture. This course provides the opportunity to travel to East Africa with Anthropology Professor Dr. Bruce Roberts. Offered for 3 credits, it is open to students of all majors. Weekly classes begin in late March, followed by a 3-week study tour of Tanzania mid-May to early June.
