MSUM in conjunction with the Department of Energy, Joint Genome Institute hosted a workshop in Microbial Genome Annotation. The workshop was held on campus Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20. Attendees learned how to utilize IMG-ACT, an online tool that can be incorporated into classrooms and research projects.
The 2012 Tri-College Diversity Conference will be held at NDSU on Oct. 30. Some of the seminar topics include recruiting a diverse workforce, working with new Americans, understanding the needs of gays and lesbians (GLBT), and communicating more effectively with Millenial college students. Justin James, Tim Peil, and Wally Sizer, mathematics, joined over fifty other area mathematicians attending the fall North Central Section meeting of the Mathematical Association of America. The meeting was held Oct. 19 and 20 at the University of Minnesota Duluth. James, as a member of the executive committee, also attended the section officers’ meeting.

Dr. David Tack, Teaching & Learning, attended the Critical Questions in Education conference in Springfield, Miss. He presented his paper “There’s no one right way to teach a child! Using educational research to develop understandings of teaching for social justice.”
