Oscar Flores, Economics, served as president of the Missouri Valley Economics Association. As president, he organized the 49th Annual Meeting of the MVEA held October 25-27 in Memphis, Tenn. There were over 180 papers presented and an attendance of over 200 professional economists from most states in the nation.
Dr. Kenyon Williams, Professor of Music, will accompany six MSUM student percussionists to the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Austin, Texas Oct. 31-Nov. 3. MSUM in conjunction with the Department of Energy, Joint Genome Institute hosted a workshop in Microbial Genome Annotation. The workshop was held on campus Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20. Attendees learned how to utilize IMG-ACT, an online tool that can be incorporated into classrooms and research projects.
The 2012 Tri-College Diversity Conference will be held at NDSU on Oct. 30. Justin James, Tim Peil, and Wally Sizer, mathematics, joined over fifty other area mathematicians attending the fall North Central Section meeting of the Mathematical Association of America. The meeting was held Oct. 19 and 20 at the University of Minnesota Duluth. James, as a member of the executive committee, also attended the section officers’ meeting.
