The Frog Princess moves to Africa
Popular fairytale appears twice in one afternoon on MSUM stage
Audience members get to set their own ticket prices Saturday, Nov. 20, in Hansen Theatre on the MSUM campus to see MSUM’s Theatre Department produce the ageless fairytale, The Frog Princess.
Why the unusual ticketing offer? According to Craig Ellingson, Chair of the Theatre Department, MSUM has produced an annual children’s theatre show for more than 40 years. He wants to celebrate the success of the program by offering everyone the chance to attend at a price anyone can afford.
“We want grandparents to bring their grandchildren, aunts and uncles to bring their nieces and nephews, parents to bring their kids, daycare providers to bring their charges.” The show is just 45 minutes long, making it easy for people with young children to attend, he notes.
Set in Africa, with bright colorful costumes and headdresses, The Frog Princess tells the story of a prince, a princess and a secret. “The time has come to pass a kingdom on, but first, each son must find a suitable bride,” explains Ellingson. “Vying for the position of Queen is a warrior princess, a spoiled princess, and a frog princess. It’s all about who will win the challenges put forth by the Queen and ultimately the love of her prince.”
Showtimes are 1 and 4 p.m. If you need more information, call the MSUM Box Office at (218) 477-2271 Monday through Friday between noon and 4 p.m.
