Faculty Development Associate Extra Duty Days Application
The Faculty Development Center has funding available to provide a limited number of Extended Duty Days to individuals or teams of faculty members in order to work on a specific project or initiative related to MSUM’s strategic priorities (https://www.mnstate.edu/about/strategic-framework.aspx) and/or one of the themes for Faculty Development (Retention; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Student-Centered Practices). Projects and initiatives could involve augmenting or redesigning content in an existing course, but the committee is willing to consider a wide variety of projects or initiatives. Individuals and groups selected will receive one (1) extra duty day per person. This Extended Duty Day should be scheduled sometime between October 25 and June 30th. Application due date: October 7, 12 noon. The Faculty Development Committee will give a response to your proposal on October 11, 2021.
You may apply individually or as part of a group. (Group size limit – 5 faculty). If an Online Learning, IT, or other professional who is not faculty is a member of your group, they cannot receive an EDD. If applying as a group, you should submit a single combined proposal. Your proposal should discuss how your project or initiative will support one of MSUM’s strategic priorities and/or one of the Faculty Development priorities listed above. You should also indicate how you plan to use your Extended Duty Day in order to make progress on it.

Faculty Development Associate Teams – Conference and Travel Application
The goal of the Faculty Development Associates Teams program is to provide a well-supported opportunity to foster collaboration among faculty members. This program addresses all parts of the center’s mission: The Faculty Development Center facilitates collective faculty efforts to collaborate and innovate and offers opportunities to increase individual faculty effectiveness, engagement, and professional well-being. These funds can go to virtual conference fees, or travel and registration to an in-person conference.For the 2022 AY, PRIORITY FUNDING will be given to proposals that directly tie to Retention; Student Centered Practices; or Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion or the University’s Strategic Priorities – https://www.mnstate.edu/about/strategic-framework/ .
Here are the steps in applying for the chance to become a Faculty Development Associate. The due date for this round of applications is noon on Noon Thursday, October 7, 2021. The Faculty Development Committee will notify you of your status by Monday, October 11, 2021.
1. Select a team leader.
2. Form an interdepartmental team of 2-4 faculty members and submit a brief proposal (use the form provided below) to attend a conference or workshop together, or engage in some sort of team professional development activity during the 2021-2022 calendar year. Your team’s proposal will be rated based on its connection to the Priority Goals listed above, MSUM’s strategic plan, the degree of collaboration and innovation in its aims, and the potential attractiveness of the proposed follow-up content to other faculty.
3. Members from teams selected by the Faculty Development Committee will receive financial support to help cover the costs of their professional development activity. The number of teams selected will be contingent upon available funding.
4. Selected teams will work with the Faculty Development Center to organize and facilitate a workshop or some other appropriate follow-up activity to create an “ongoing impact” on the campus community sometime during the 2021-22 or 2022-23 academic year.5.
