Schedule Library Instruction for Fall 2020

The MSUM Livingston Lord Library is committed to offering appropriate learning opportunities for students in your courses. If your course has assignment(s) that will use the library’s resources and require research, source attribution, etc., we can offer the following options. Please contact the librarian liaison assigned to your area at your earliest convenience to discuss if any of these options will work for you and your students.
Face to face opportunities are limited with class size, capacity requirements, and lab availability.

Options for library instruction (can be a mixture, for example, libguides with Zoom; libguides with Face to Face):

  1. Libguides tailored to the course and assignment. A libguide is a subject, course, or assignment-specific web site created by a librarian in consultation with the course instructor that guides students to particular databases and strategies. You can see a variety of these at libguides.mnstate.edu. These are able to be accessed at any time and do not require any synchronous instruction. However, a librarian can take students through the guides either FTF or via Zoom.
  2. Face to face instruction session in Library 208. RULES: A. 25 people in the room – that includes the librarian and the instructor. B. If class is larger, divide in half and spread out either over two class periods, or do half of class at beginning of period and half at end. C. Masks are required. Library 208 is appropriately spaced for safety. It is our only lab available for Fall.
  3. Setting up a synchronous Zoom session your liaison librarian, instructor and class. This works best if a class has time set aside for synchronous instruction. It can also be recorded and the link can be shared with the class for later viewing.
  4. Having a librarian create a video talking about the library resources specific to an assignment. (Note – this takes some advanced planning, so contacting the librarian in advance will help make this happen).
  5. Individuals or groups of students set up appointments with a librarian via Zoom.
  6. Students contact librarians via Chat which is available M-TH 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., F 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Sundays 1-5 p.m.
  7. Students send questions regarding research to a librarian or to refdesk@mnstate.edu.
  8. A librarian can also visit your class and talk about and demonstrate databases, strategies, etc.

It is never too early to talk about what we can do to help you and your students achieve their learning goals. We are committed to still delivering quality library instruction and research help during this time.
