MSU Moorhead will award degrees to 425 students during its fall commencement Thursday, Dec. 19 at 1 p.m. in MSUM’s Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse. About 300 students are expected to participate in the ceremonies.
MnSCU Chancellor Steven J. Rosenstone is the first commencement speaker. Rosenstone began his term as chancellor of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities in August, 2011. He is responsible for leading the seven state universities and 24 community and technical colleges that serve more than 430,000 students in 47 communities across the state, and for strengthening the contributions MnSCU colleges and universities deliver in growing Minnesota’s workforce and economy.
Rosenstone holds a bachelor’s degree from Washington University and master’s degree and doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley.
Former Senator Keith Langseth is the second commencement speaker. Senator Langseth’s career included 36 years of outstanding service as a member of the Minnesota Legislature. His lasting impact on public policy spanned a range of issues, including agriculture and natural resources, transportation, education, tax policy, bonding, and small business.
Senator Langseth’s efforts as a member of the Senate Capital Investment Committee, including 10 years as committee chair, contributed to the success of all higher education institutions and improved higher education opportunities and access across the state. Over the past decade of his career alone, his efforts resulted in capital investments of over $2 billion for higher education institutions throughout Minnesota, including projects critically important to the communities he represented. These projects include renovations to MSU Moorhead’s Hagen Hall, MacLean Hall, Lommen Hall, and Livingston Lord Library, as well as additions to Minnesota Community and Technical College’s Mechanical Trades program, library and classrooms.
