Students were involved in observational astronomy research at the Paul P Feder Observatory since spring 2011. Photometric data of an SX Phoenicis star, XX Cyg were obtained via the DFM engineered 16” Cassegrain optical telescope, an Apogee Alta U-Series CCD Camera. Reduced data were analyzed using the MaxIM DL IP (Image processing) software. Using the Period 04 software and the Periodogram services of the NASA Exoplanet Archive, the period of the star was estimated and compared with the current accepted values. An instruction manual for how to work with the SBIG SGS Spectrograph was also prepared.
