Moorhead holds sash ceremony for graduating international, multicultural students

Friday, May 8 | 9:30 a.m. | Comstock Memorial Union Ballroom

Minnesota State Moorhead will host a sash ceremony for our diverse graduating students on Friday, May 8, at 9:30 a.m. in the Comstock Memorial Union Ballroom. This special ceremony will include a presentation of sashes celebrating each recipient’s culture and identity. Graduates are encouraged to wear their sashes at commencement that afternoon.

President Tim Downs and Provost & Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs Ok-Hee Lee will recognize graduating international and domestic students who identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Color, or LGBTQIA2S+. Students will receive a sash representing their country of citizenship or affinity.

“These sashes and the ceremony offer a beautiful way for our international and multicultural students to showcase their academic success while proudly representing their citizenship and cultural heritage,” said Kerri Spiering, Interim Director of the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Global Engagement.

This month’s ceremony includes 22 graduating students. The student speaker is Megan Oyerly, a digital media management major from Topeka, Kan., and a graduate of Hayden High School.

Moorhead is committed to creating an inclusive and accessible event. If you need a reasonable accommodation to attend this event, please complete the Event Accommodations Form and a staff member will be in touch with you.
