MSUM guest artist to perform in concert Oct. 25 and with Wind Ensemble Oct. 27

MSUM presents a guest recital with Dean Somerville on tuba, Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 5 p.m. in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts Fox Recital Hall. Somerville will perform works by Mozart, Hindemith, Somerville and more. He will be accompanied by Dr. Amy Mercer on piano and Doug Neil on tuba.
Dean Somerville served as the principal tubist, featured soloist and tuba clinician with the United States Army Field Band “The Musical Ambassadors of the Army” in Washington, D.C. He was a founding member of the Emmanuel Brass Quintet, The Missouri Brass Consortium, the Show-Me Four Tuba Quartet, and The Bass Brothers Duo. As a composer and arranger, Somerville has written original works and arrangements for wind ensembles, orchestra, tuba-euphonium ensemble and quartets, tuba and piano, chamber winds, and duets for a variety of instruments. He is the founder and owner of BASSCLEF Publications.
Wind Ensemble performs Oct. 27 with guest artist and tubist Dean Sommerville

The MSUM Wind Ensemble presents a program of music evoking majestic castles and ferocious dragons, including a featured performance by guest artist and tubist Dean Sommerville, on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts Hansen Theatre.
The concert will include works by Brian Beck, Tielman Susato, James Reese Europe, Steven Reineke and more.
The Wind Ensemble is directed by Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands Benjamin Druffel. He conducts the Wind Ensemble and teaches courses in Instrumental Music Education. Druffel began his career abroad in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, teaching music at an American/International school. He has also conducted and performed with ensembles in Bahrain, Cyprus, Egypt, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and the UAE.
