MOORHEAD — A renovation project planned for nearly a decade for the oldest building on the Minnesota State University Moorhead campus is finally moving ahead.
Weld Hall, built in 1915, will be preserved and modernized through a $23.1 million project, approved by the Minnesota Legislature as part of a pair of $2.6 billion capital investment bills.
Brenda Norris, executive director of facilities management, said Weld Hall was last remodeled more than 50 years ago.
“MSUM started plans to renovate Weld Hall in 2014, and now, thanks to the 2023 legislative funding, we can finally move on to construction,” she said.
MSUM President Anne Blackhurst has called Weld Hall the university’s “most historic and distinguished” building on campus.
Funding for renovation of the 108-year-old building was a long time coming.
