MSUM Jazz Ensemble performs with guest artist Steve Wiest on April 25

Tuesday, April 25 | 7:30 p.m. | Weld Hall Glasrud Auditorium

The MSUM Jazz Ensemble will perform with Grammy-nominated trombonist, composer, author, and cartoonist Steve Wiest at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, in the university’s Weld Hall Glasrud Auditorium.

The concert will feature mostly Wiest’s original compositions and arrangements.

The former soloist and writer for Maynard Ferguson, Wiest traveled with Doc Severinsen and the Old Tonight Show Orchestra, as well as other artists. He has numerous recordings, the most recent being the second album, “BLUE,” from the critically-acclaimed all-star horn band Vinyl Hampdin.

Wiest is a former director of the One O’Clock Lab Band at The University of North Texas (UNT). Following UNT, Wiest was co-chair of jazz studies at The University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music and taught arranging, composition, jazz trombone and directed the award-winning Lamont Jazz Orchestra. In high demand as a clinician, composer and conductor, Wiest has directed many all-state ensembles and appeared as a guest artist and clinician worldwide.
