MSUM holds 25th Student Academic Conference on April 18
Tuesday, April 18 | 8:45 a.m. to 5:50 p.m. | Comstock Memorial Union
MSU Moorhead’s 25th annual Andrew B. Conteh Student Academic Conference (SAC) will take place Tuesday, April 18, from 8:45 a.m. to 5:50 p.m. in the university’s Comstock Memorial Union (CMU). The conference showcases scientific research and creative activity conducted by students and mentored by faculty. It will include nearly 200 poster or oral presentations on topics ranging from Newton’s Law of Cooling Applied to Jack’s Pizza, The Gender Minority in Early Childhood Education: Being A Male Teacher to Sharenting and Child Privacy: A Content Analysis of Parent Bloggers’ Instagram Posts and Do Perceptions of Guilt Vary as a Function of Defendant Race and Crime Type? A Mock Crime Experiment.
More than 270 graduate and undergraduate students representing 17 academic and service departments have been mentored by nearly 50 faculty advisors—whether in the laboratory, the field, the studio, the computer lab or the classroom. These applied learning opportunities transform students’ personal and professional growth.
This year’s conference also welcomes 17 area employers to network with students and share information about available internships and job opportunities. Employers will be set up from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the CMU ballroom.
This year’s featured keynote speaker is MSUM accounting graduate David Dietz, president and CEO of Preference Employment Solutions in Fargo. He will speak to students about reaching their potential at 11:45 a.m. in the CMU Ballroom.
Preference Employment Solutions helps companies hire the best employees for the best jobs through contract staffing. The company used to interview the top three to five candidates for a position and now often have just one candidate to offer an employer. While Preference used to work hard to acquire clients, they now need to be selective about their client partners. Amidst this changing employment climate, which benefits the job seeker over the hiring company, Preference’s team members practice resiliency and learn to let go of what they don’t have control over.
