MSUM hosts 32nd annual Woodlands and High Plains Powwow April 15
The 32nd annual Woodlands and High Plains Powwow (WHPP) will be held Saturday, April 15, in Nemzek Fieldhouse on the MSUM campus. This year’s theme is “Together We Thrive.” The WHPP is sponsored by MSUM, Concordia College, Minnesota State Community and Technical College, and North Dakota State University.
The powwow will feature many styles of dance and drum songs from area tribes, including Jingle Dress Special, Potato Dance Special, Head Male and Head Female Dancer Special and Two Spirit/LGBT Special.
Grand entries are at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and a community meal will be served during the 5 p.m. break. The doors will open to the public at noon. This year’s head female dancer will be NDSU student and current Miss He Sapa Win 2022-23 Taylor Campbell, and the head male dancer is Tim Gabbard, a sophomore at Moorhead High School.
The emcee is Mickey Hodges, arena director is Mike Gabbard, spiritual advisor is Willard Yellowbird, and the host drum is Battle River, with the White Earth Veterans Honor Guard.
Admission for the event is $3 for elders (55+) and youth (ages 6-18); $5 for adults; and free for children under 5 and colleges students with ID.
