MSUM holds sash ceremony for graduating international and multicultural students Dec. 14
MSUM will host a sash ceremony for international and multicultural students on Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 4 p.m. in the Comstock Memorial Union Ballroom.
Graduating international students will receive a sash to represent their country of citizenship, graduating multicultural students will receive an affinity sash, and exchange students will receive a certificate of appreciation.
“We know the hard work and dedication our international and multicultural students devote to graduate,” said Fumi Cheever, MSUM’s Global Engagement Director. “Students wear their graduation sash during commencement to showcase their pride for their country of citizenship and their culture.”
December’s ceremony includes 10 international students and two exchange students representing nine countries, as well as 41 multicultural graduate and undergraduate students from six states.
Student speakers include:
- Gael Shama, a biology: health and medical sciences major from Botswana & Democratic Republic of the Congo
- Anamika Gurung, a project management major from Nepal
- Kory Powell-Oliver, a graphic communications major from Las Vegas, Nev.
This special ceremony is sponsored by MSUM’s Office of Diversity & Inclusion and the Center for Global Engagement.
