Region’s first sensory hallway: art collaboration

West Fargo Public Schools and School of Art Collaboration

The Art Education Student Organization under advisor Professor Brad Bachmeier is collaborating with the just-opened Deer Creek Elementary School to complete a large-scale mural as part of a community service learning outreach project. The MSUM Art School volunteers will help design and execute the creation of a 40′ long mural that will be an integral part of creating the region’s first Sensory or Active Hallway. The idea of a Sensory Hallway is to help students move more throughout their school day, be able to refocus when needed and to increase language and numeric literacy as they move through the hallways. Deer Creek Art Teacher and MSUM Alumni, Lindsay Opp will be working with her elementary students to involve them in creating parts of the mural to increase student engagement and ownership of the building. The mural will be painted Dec. 18-20. Learn more about Active or Sensory Hallways here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4q8dNwsR3E   or   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDefbr7Vlro
