Welcome to the #DragonFamily: Karen Qualey
Meet MSUM’s Director of Online Learning, Karen Qualey. She is excited to team with faculty to expand how we provide students with access to dynamic and engaging online courses.
Start date: July 8, 2019
Q: What drew you to MSUM?
A: I’m a Dragon! I have two undergraduate degrees and an Educational Leadership Specialist degree from MSUM. My master’s degree and teaching license are from another university.
Q: How do you prefer to start the workday?
A: I like to say “good morning” to anyone I see. It also includes coffee and reading emails.
Q: What energizes you at work?
A: Just being helpful and building relationships with peers.
Q: What is one thing people don’t know about you?
A: I still own a motorcycle (1978 Kawasaki KZ 100) that was a present from my father on my 13th birthday. I really wanted a horse but now I’m happy it didn’t work out.
Q: What was the best advice you’ve ever received or given? Who was it from or to?
A: I had a colleague who often cited Ellen Langer, and reminded our team that “control is an illusion.” While we can’t control everything, this phrase prompted us to be mindful of our standing and to respond accordingly.
Once a Dragon, always a Dragon. Welcome to the #DragonFamily, Karen!
