Plastic Bag Recycling Challenge Ends April 8
This year MSUM’s Sustainable Students Association (SSA) has been hosting a six-month plastic bag recycling competition. It began in October and will end April 8. At present we have collected 60% of our 500 lb. goal.
If MSUM reaches its goal, the university will receive a free bench made of recycled plastic, in addition to helping save the environment!
When the challenge ends April 8 you can continue recycling plastic bags, just not on campus. We encourage you to bring them with you to the grocery store when you go shopping. Most local grocery stores have locations to drop off plastic bags for recycling.
Accepted materials include:
- Grocery bags
- Bread bags
- Case overwrap (from bulk beverages)
- Dry cleaning bags
- Newspaper sleeves
- Ice bags
- Wood pellet bags
- Ziplock and other re-sealable bags
- Produce bags
- Bubble wrap and packaging air pillows
- Salt bags
- Cereal bags
It is important to note all materials must be clean, dry and free of food residue.
Bins for plastic bag collection are located in Nemzek, Hagen, John Neumaier Hall, and in MacLean near the Dragon Café, and the CMU on the first floor.
