MSUM Common Read: ‘The Other Wes Moore’

We are pleased to announce MSUM will be sponsoring a Common Read for the fall of 2019. The purpose of a common read is to bring people together as a community by creating common ground for discussion. It is our hope that this common read will spark discussions between faculty, staff, students, and the community.

To facilitate these discussions, a series of activities including lectures, in-class discussions, and possibly a visit by the author are planned. We encourage faculty to incorporate the chosen book into their fall curriculum. We also encourage departments to read the book together as professional development.

The book selected is The Other Wes Moore.

“Two kids with the same name were born blocks apart in the same city within a few years of each other. One grew up to be a Rhodes Scholar, army officer, White House Fellow, and business leader. The other is serving a life sentence in prison. Here is the story of two boys and the journey of a generation.”

More information will follow. If you have any questions please contact Donna Brown, University Diversity Officer.
