MSUM hosts free prom dress event
“If the Dress Fits” comes to Moorhead to give away prom dresses
Minnesota State University Moorhead hosts “If the Dress Fits,” an event that gives away prom dresses to area high school students. The event is in the university’s Wellness Center (805 14th St S, Moorhead, MN) from noon until 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23-24. Parking is available in Lot G-1.
Students must be present and show a valid school ID to take home a dress. Students may bring other shoes or flip-flops for trying on dresses. The limit is one dress per student.
“If the Dress Fits” was founded by MSUM student Ashleigh Arntson and her mother Amy Arntson in 2015. The nonprofit organization is based out of Duluth, Minn. Ashleigh Arntson started the organization after having difficulty finding the right dress for the right price during her own prom experience. “If the Dress Fits” collects donated prom dresses throughout the year, which they label, size and wash prior to giveaways. Arntson organizes events in the spring to give the dresses for free to high school students.
“I just wanted to make sure that no one was missing out on (prom) because they couldn’t afford a prom dress,” Ashleigh Arntson said.
All high school students are welcome to attend, try on dresses and take one home, “if the dress fits.”
