Director of Online Learning on campus interviews – faculty, staff meet & greets

Faculty, staff and administration are invited to a Meet & Greet with each Director of Online Learning candidate this week.

Karen Qualey on Tuesday, October 9 at 2:45-3:30 in the Library Porch

Karen Qualey is a Digital Learning Coordinator for the Bloomington Public School district and is responsible for the design and implementation of Bloomington’s online learning program. She enjoys participating in the creative problem solving process and recognizes that innovation occurs when partnering with others. Karen applies a consensus-driven approach to developing a vision for online learning that focuses on the transformative intersections of pedagogy, content and technology.

Karen’s educational background includes an Educational Leadership Specialist degree from MSUM and a Master of Library and Information Science from St. Catherine University. She also earned two undergraduate degrees from MSUM in English and Speech Language Hearing Science.

David Herding on Wednesday, October 10 at 10:55-11:40 in FDC 124

Born in Moorhead, raised in Red Lake Falls and graduating from Thief River Falls Technical College, David Herding began his teaching career in 1990 as the instructor and curriculum developer of an IBM sponsored computer training program that allowed physically disabled people to graduate from Minneapolis Community College and obtain gainful employment. He then went on to supervise an engineering documentation department and taught as an adjunct classroom instructor at ITT Technical College. After obtaining a Master’s Certificate in Postsecondary Teaching from Bethel University, David interned at Capella University in downtown Minneapolis and was eventually hired full time as an Instructional Designer/Curriculum Specialist creating over 100 online competency-based courses in various academic disciplines. He was then hired by William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul as the designer and developer of the first ever American Bar Association approved hybrid law program in the country. Along with classroom instruction and developing online/blended learning, David has extensive experience as an online student and is currently in the “all but dissertation” phase of his Doctor of Education degree from Grand Canyon University in the area of Organizational Leadership anticipating completion in 2019.

Dan Harrison on Friday, October 12 at 1:30-2:15 in the Library Porch

Dan Harrison has over 16 years in online learning experience through his roles as a student, instructor, course developer, instructional designer, LMS administrator, trainer, manager, and business owner. He has served as an adjunct instructor at MSUM teaching courses in entrepreneurship and is currently an adjunct at M State teaching an online class in social media marketing. Through his current role as Technology Trainer at Moorhead Schools and previous roles as Instructional Design & Development Coordinator at M State and eLearning Instructional Designer at Sanford Health Systems, Dan has helped hundreds of instructors transition their courses from classroom delivery to online delivery. Harrison holds a bachelor’s degree from North Dakota State University and a master’s degree from Fort Hays State University.
