MSUM expects nearly 900 students to graduate May 11
MSUM will award degrees to nearly 900 students during its spring commencement programs Friday, May 11 in the university’s Nemzek Fieldhouse.
Alumnus Kevin Wallevand, who earned a degree in mass communications, will be the commencement speaker at both ceremonies. A native of Vining, Minn., Wallevand has been a reporter at WDAY-TV since 1983. His series and documentary work has brought him to Africa, Vietnam, Haiti, Kosovo, South America, Mongolia and the Middle East. Kevin is an engaging storyteller and has received several notable recognitions for his work, including Emmy and Edward R. Murrow awards. He is a proud alumnus of MSUM and has been a valued instructor in the MSUM School of Communication and Journalism for the past 13 years.
The 10 a.m. ceremony will include graduates of the College of Arts, Media and Communication; College of Business and Innovation; College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Graduate Studies. The student speaker will be Chidubem Nuela Enebechi, a computer science major from Enugu, Nigeria.
The 2 p.m. ceremony will include graduates of the College of Education and Human Services; College of Science, Health and the Environment; and Graduate Studies. The student speakers will be Ashley and Isaac Skalsky. Ashley is a math, math education and Teaching English as a Second Language major from Thief River Falls, Minn., and Isaac is a chemistry, chemistry education, and physics education major from Saint Hilaire, Minn. The couple has known each other since middle school, and both graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls. They were married August 12, 2017.
Parking will be open in all university lots on commencement day. Lots will not be ticketed the day of the ceremony. Street parking will be available as posted. Driving directions to campus are located at http://www.mnstate.edu/admissions/drivingdirections.aspx
