Brad Bachmeier selected as Mesa Verde National Park Artist-in-Residence

Brad Bachmeier, an award winning ceramicist from Fargo, North Dakota, and recipient of over 40 regional, national, and international awards will be the artist-in-residence at the Mesa Verde National Park, May 15-31. Bachmeier has spent the past 24 years researching and creating work that centers around the idea of honoring mankind’s ancient and universal partnership with clay. Bachmeier, a Professor of Art at Minnesota State University Moorhead will spend several weeks exploring the parks unique geology and archeology. Bachmeier will have access to the Park’s archeological collections, rare cliff dwellings and hundreds of unexcavated sites not open to the public. Professor Bachmeier will dig and test local clays and use the access to the Park’s rich resources to further develop his “Primal Element” series of ceramic vessels working to place the Mesa Verde Cliff Dwellings and earth use in a global ceramic context.
