Three more scholarships awarded in MSUM’s social media scholarship campaign
Three more area high school students have won $2,500 scholarships to MSUM in the university’s innovative social media scholarship program. The students are Ally Lutz, Park Christian High School; Carissa Gunufson, Fertile-Beltrami High School; and Olivia Kollar, Underwood High School.
Entry into the now completed scholarship contest was simple: prospective MSUM students tweeted why they wanted to “Be A Dragon” on Twitter and a panel of judges picked four tweets that resonated the most. MSUM also awarded two $1,000 scholarships – one to the entry with the most “likes” and the other to the prospective student with the most retweets.
Gunufson, whose submission focused on the opportunities education has provided her, used Twitter to promote a video focusing on MSUM as her college of choice. With the theme of education opening doors, she narrated a highlight video of the opportunities she has had to learn and why she chose to be a Dragon. Watch her winning entry.
“This door in front of me would lead to a future of art and learning. This was MSUM’s door,” narrates Gunufson. “I am a Dragon because of bold ideas, supportive staff and remarkable chances.”
Kollar, a future graphic design major, whose submission showed her personality and humor, used Twitter to promote a video focusing on the “design” of her future. Watch her winning entry.
“I am so fired up to design my future,” Kollar declared from a kiln as quick highlights of her holding a sewing machine and laptop computer ran.
Lutz, who wants to be a teacher, used Twitter to promote a video she created featuring interviews with elementary students. Interwoven with the teacher’s comments, Ally narrates how young children are the future of our world how she sees MSUM as the university to help achieve her dreams. Watch her winning entry.
“I believe MUSM is the best place for me to learn how to become the best teacher possible,” said Lutz in her submission. “Someday I will be nurturing young minds just like these.”
The $2,500 competitive one-time scholarships were focused on new incoming students and required applicants to have been admitted to MSUM by March 11th and to tweet their message with the #BeADragon hashtag. #BeADragon awards are in addition to a full complement of automatic scholarships MSUM awards for academic achievement.
