Office of Admissions hosting card-signing party

Reburn Named Director of Undergraduate Admissions

Tom Reburn has accepted the position of Director of Undergraduate Admissions with a start date of June 5.

Doug Peters, the Interim Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs stated the primary goal of the search was two-fold: to hire someone with the skills and knowledge to do the work and equally important fit into the MSUM community while continuing to help grow the momentum the Office of Undergraduate Admissions has worked very hard to build.  Read the rest of this entry →

  • Our admissions representatives will be out on the road this week. They will be headed to private school fairs in the Twin Cities and to local high schools in the area to visit with prospective students.

Each week the Office of Admissions will be sharing a few things happening on campus and in our recruiting territories. We hope to provide you with a brief look into what’s happening in Admissions.

  • Our admissions reps will be visiting schools is the area and attending fairs in South Dakota.
  • Admitted student day is Friday, April 21. Admitted student day is exclusively for admitted students who are still undecided about college to get another visit to MSUM to get their final questions answered and to see if it is a good fit for them. They will tour the campus, eat in Kise Commons, hear from current students, and much more!
  • Preview Days will be Saturday, April 22. We are excited to meet with prospective students on campus. We want to thank all of the departments who are participating in advance for their hard work.

Director of Undergraduate Admissions open forums

MSUM will be hosting three candidates for the position of Director of Undergraduate Admissions the week of April 3-7. The campus community is invited to an open forum where each candidate will present a five minute relevant overview of their educational and professional background focusing on management and leadership experiences. The overview will be followed by a presentation regarding areas of opportunity and concern for undergraduate recruitment based on the MSUM Undergraduate Enrollment Report and other public information and a short question and answer time.

The open forums will be held in CMU 205 from 10:15 a.m. – 11 a.m. on the following dates for each candidate:

  • April 3 – Tom Reburn – Associate Director of Admissions for Data and Operations
  • April 6 – Justin Grams – Assistant Director of Admissions and Records at North Dakota State College of Science
  • April 7 – Erik Johnson – Director of Undergraduate Admissions and Orientation at Northern Arizona University

Change in Admission Director candidate open forums

Pete Lien has withdrawn as a candidate for the position and there will not be an open forum on Wednesday.

The next open forum will be on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. in CMU 205 with candidate Justin Grams.

  • We will be hosting a transfer night on April 4 where prospective students will have the chance to learn what it will take to transfer to MSUM and experience what it’s like to be a student at MSUM. It is an informative and informal open house for students to engage with faculty, receive advising, and explore campus.
  • Our reps will be doing campus visits throughout all of Cass County and attending a transfer fair in Bottineau, N.D.

Be A Dragon scholarship winners

Six incoming students were recognized for their creativity on Twitter during this year’s Be A Dragon scholarship contest. Nearly 400 admitted students submitted entries.

Students were eligible to participate after being accepted to MSUM for the Fall 2017 semester, and sharing why they want to be a Dragon using #BeADragon on Twitter.

Four $2,500 scholarships were awarded based on creativity and expression of Dragon pride. Two $1,000 scholarships were awarded for most likes and retweets.  Read the rest of this entry →

  • Our admissions reps are back on the road again! They will be visiting various schools and attending fairs in Alexandria, Breckenridge, and throughout Northeast North Dakota.
  • Admitted student day is April 21. Admitted student day is exclusively for admitted students who are still undecided about college to get another visit to MSUM to get their final questions answered and to see if it is a good fit for them. They will tour the campus, eat in Kise Commons, hear from current students, and much more!
  • Transfer night is April 4. Transfer Night provides a unique chance to learn more about how to transfer to MSUM from our transfer experts as well as the opportunity to get an idea of what your experience as a student at MSUM may look like by visiting with faculty and touring campus. It is an informative and informal open house for students to engage with faculty, receive advising, and explore campus.

Each week the Office of Admissions will be sharing a few things happening on campus and in our recruiting territories. We hope to provide you with a brief look into what’s happening in Admissions.

  • We will be hosting students from College Possible on March 25. The College Possible Minnesota Organization coaches low-income students to and through college. They proudly to be serving more than 2,500 high school students attending 56 high schools across the state, and 5,500 college students on 249 campuses across the country.
    • Admissions has partnered with College Possible to host their students for a visit to MSU Moorhead on Saturday, March 25. Students will be connected with current students, faculty, and staff at MSUM to explore diversity and inclusion, academic life, student experiences, paying for college, and many other great things we have to offer. Please join us in welcoming College Possible!
  • We will be hosting a transfer night on April 4 where prospective students will have the chance to learn what it will take to transfer to MSUM and experience what it’s like to be a student at MSUM. It is an informative and informal open house for students to engage with faculty, receive advising, and explore campus.
  • A big thank you to everyone who participated in Preview Days this past Saturday! As always, we wouldn’t be able to do it without the help of our faculty and staff members.

MSUM Spring enrollment sees increases

Significant Gains in Graduate, International and New Undergraduates  

Thirty-day figures released this week show MSUM’s enrollment for new entering graduate students continues to grow with a 25% increase over last spring, with new entering domestic undergraduate students up 10.3%, and new entering international students up 19%.   • We are excited to welcome our newest member of the admissions team, Scott. Scott will be joining us from the University of Minnesota Crookston where he previously served as an admissions counselor. Scott will be taking over the role of our admissions representative and will work with prospective first-year students from North Dakota and northwest Minnesota.
  • Our February Preview Days was a success and we look forward to hosting another Preview Days in March. They will be held March 17 and 18. We want to thank everyone who has participated and who will continue to participate with this event.
