MSUM Economic Society attended the Winter Institute Conference
Ten members of the MSUM Economic Society attended the 54th annual Winter Institute Conference on February 10-11, 2016 in St. Cloud, MN. The theme this year was on Community Wellness & Engagement and how we can contribute to make our communities prosper. The first day included a panel on the general Economic Outlook for 2016, while the second day included breakout sessions, led by the Keynote speaker Dr. Robert Putnam, who has been a consultant for Presidents Clinton, Bush, Obama, and various world leaders. There was also a panel discussion, Community Well-Being: The Economic Value of Welcoming Our Newest Residents “It’s More than Minnesota Nice.” The panelists discussed the economic implications of showing hospitality towards new residents in Minnesota including an increasing number of Somali refugees within the state.
