History Day March 2nd 2016
The West Central Minnesota Regional History Day is coming up on Wednesday March 2nd 2016 at the Comstock Memorial Union Ballroom. We are in need of 35 judges this year for this event from 3 – 8pm. If you are interested in being a judge please click the following link to the Minnesota Historical Society History Day Judge signup form.
For the most part, the Minnesota Historical Society puts on the event, in collaboration with us here at MSUM. The History Program helps recruit Mentors and Judges for this regional event. Judges can be faculty, staff, students and community members. Mentors and judges do not need to be involved with the MSUM History Program, they just need to have an interest in history! We ask your help in promoting this event. To sign up, simply click the above link to fill out the form. After signing up you will receive further information from the Minnesota Historical Society History Day staff. There will be a brief judge training at 3pm and actual judging begins at 4. If you have not been involved with History Day before, below is a little information about the event quoted from the Minnesota Historical Society website.
National History Day is an inter-disciplinary research project for students in grades 6-12. History Day teaches students to:
*Conduct in-depth research
*Use primary and secondary sources
*Read a variety of texts
*Analyze and synthesize information
*Write and present historical content
Students choose a topic that relates to an annual theme, research that topic, and develop their research into one of five presentation categories: research paper, exhibit, documentary, performance, or website. Students may then enter their projects into History Day competitions at school, regional, state, and national levels.
