Ginther and Humphers-Ginther represent MSUM at Kids Plus Pathway to Careers Expo
With support from the College of Education and Human Services, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Office of Admissions, Shawn Ginther (Social Work) and Sue Humphers-Ginther (Sociology and Criminal Justice) represented MSUM at the 2nd Kids Plus Pathway to Careers Expo at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center on October 27.
Pathway to Careers provides high school students with the opportunity to explore potential careers and learn about the educational steps needed to pursue an occupation or field of interest. Approximately 1,400 10th and 11th graders were bused from high schools throughout the seven counties comprising northeastern Minnesota and Douglas County in northwestern Wisconsin to the DECC where they participated in occupation and industry cluster workshops, choosing from engineering, healthcare, business and finance, manufacturing and trades, natural resources, technology, public services and education, transportation, communications, and non-profit and philanthropy.
Students also visited a Career and College Expo which provided an interactive forum for over 80 area businesses, colleges, and universities to connect with the region’s future workforce, promote career and higher education opportunities, and encourage students to identify the skills they need to be successful in the workplace. Drs. Ginther and Humphers-Ginther also met with event organizers from the Northland Foundation to explore the effectiveness of this model as a possible recruitment tool for MSUM.
