Political Science Honors Graduates, Pi Sigma Alpha Members and 2015 Outstanding Political Science Student

2015-gradsOn the evening of May 5, Political Science held a banquet honoring Spring 2015 graduates and current and new members of Pi Sigma Alpha, the Political Science national honor society. Held at Usher’s House in Moorhead, the event celebrated the Political Science and International Studies programs 18 seniors who are graduating. MSUM Political Science also inducted 8 new members to the Alpha Eta Mu Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha. 2015-PSA-Initiates2The new members are Sean Duckworth, Hazim Hashim, John Hermann, Bettsy Hjelseth, Kellie Hoverson, Rheider McCormick, Anna Sylva and Aaron Vanyo. Current members Brenden Giersdorf, Dick Jasperse, Garrett Oates and Jordan Schroeer were also honored.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Outstanding Political Science Student Award.  This award goes to a Pi Sigma Alpha member voted by the faculty.  The winner of this year’s $600 award was Bettsy Hjelseth. Bettsy will be attending the Humphrey School of Public Affairs in Minneapolis beginning in the fall.

Students and faculty also welcomed Professor Emeritus Jim Danielson and 2013 Outstanding Political Science Award winner Robert Trethefren.  Robert graduated in 2013 and is currently working at Hatch Realty as their Director of Research and Expansion.
