May 2015 Graduates – What Is Your Dragon Story?

What is your Dragon story?

The University is seeking a graduate interested in presenting their Dragon Story at each of the two May 15th Commencement ceremonies. Are you the one that will inspire your fellow graduates, your families/friends, and faculty and staff with your MSUM experience?

To apply,you must
1)    be a currently enrolled MSUM student that has met the requirements for May 2015 graduation.
2)    have submitted your intent to participate in the May 2015 commencement ceremony for your college.
3)    complete and submit your application (with the required elements) via email to Registrar Heather Soleim (heather.soleim@mnstate.edu} by4:30 p.m.March 27,2015.
4)    include three items with your application:
a)    a statement from an MSUM faculty member confirming your public-speaking abilities.
b)    a typed detailed outline of your 4-6 minute proposed speech (including topic, discussion points,and conclusion) addressing two questions:
How did MSUM transform your life?
How do you plan to use the skills and knowledge you acquired as an MSUM student to transform the lives of others?” c} a statement indicating why you want to be your commencement ceremony speaker.
Selection Process:

Applications will be reviewed by a committee including the Provost and Vice President for Academic Afiairs, Associate Vice President for Academic Planning, Registrar, and Student Senate President.

One student speaker will be selected to represent the Colleges participating in the 10:00 commencement (from the College of Education and Human Services; the College of Science, Health and the Environment; or Graduate Studies). One student speaker will be selected to represent the Colleges participating in the 2 p.m. commencement (from the College of Arts, Media and Communication; the College of Business and Innovation; the College or Humanities and Social Sciences; or Graduate Studies).

The two student speakers selected will be notified by April 15, 2015. The two student speakers will be required to present their speeches during a minimum of two practice sessions to the committee prior to the commencement ceremony. Each speaker will be invited to participate in the commencement day luncheon (details to follow).
