MSUM Planetarium announces fall shows

Minnesota State University Moorhead’s Planetarium announced two shows that will be taking place during the month of November.

“Back to the Moon for Good” shows at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 9, 16 and 23, and at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3 and 10. It begins with a tour through the history of lunar exploration, tracing back to the 1960s and 1970s. We hear some of the teams racing to land a robotic spacecraft on the moon and win the Google Lunar XPRIZE. The audience is taken on a successful launch, landing and tour of the lunar surface. The show ends with an enticing visualization of a future settlement on the moon.

The stunning visuals and compelling narrative of the show explain the importance of the Google Lunar XPRIZE in encouraging today’s space entrepreneurs and innovators to collaborate toward building a new space economy while inspiring the next generation to “shoot for the moon.”

“The Sky Above Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood” shows at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 8, 15 and 22. Join the residents of the popular children’s PBS television show as they explore the wonders of the sky above Mr. Rogers’ neighborhood. Watch the sun set from Daniel’s clock, go stargazing from the roof of King Friday’s castle and find out if Lady Elaine Fairchild can catch the moon for her museum in this computer-animated version of the popular children’s television show.

General admission for all shows at the planetarium is $5. Admission for children (12 and under), senior citizens (62 and up) and Tri-college students is $2.50.

The Planetarium is located on the Minnesota State University Moorhead campus in Bridges Hall, Room 167 at 11th St. and 8th Ave. S in Moorhead. Please use the south entrance to Bridges Hall.
