College of Humanities and Social Sciences determines permanent name

After a nearly year-long conversation among and between faculty and administration, the temporarily named “College of Humanities and Social Sciences” has decided on the appellation as an official one. The name is intended both to identify its disciplines with traditional categories and to suggest affinities between humanities and social science areas.

As of March 1, the College contains five academic departments:

Economics, Law and Politics
English
History, Languages, Critical Race and Women’s Studies
Philosophy
Sociology and Criminal Justice

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences comprises over forty academic programs, and has nearly 70 faculty and 800 majors.
