Buddhist Philosophy colloquium presented by Dr. Chang-Seong Hong
Dr. Chang-Seong Hong, Department of Philosophy, is going to give a colloquium on Buddhist Philosophy on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 4:15 p.m. in MacLean 165. His topic is “The Many Faces of Enlightenment.” Hong will discuss different concepts of enlightenment that he believes resulted in a puzzling confusion in the history of Buddhism.
His classification of different kinds of enlightenment will help clarify and make disappear the recalcitrant philosophical problems involved in the time-honored debates on sudden and gradual enlightenment. Also, Hong claims that the enlightenment emphasized in the Zen tradition may not be recognized as an enlightenment from a philosophical point of view.
All are welcome. Please let Dr. Hong know if you have any questions, cshong@mnstate.edu.
