Graphic communications student earns advertising scholarship
Congratulations to graphic communications student Juan Reyes who received the Larry Gauper Advertising Creativity Scholarship February 22. Reyes earned the $500 scholarship for demonstrating exceptional creative talent, passion for the advertising industry, and a commitment to a communications-based career.
The competition was open to all undergraduate students in North Dakota and Moorhead, Minnesota. Currently at MSUM, Reyes serves as the Comstock Memorial Union’s creative communications assistant and is interning at MSUM Dining Services. He submitted creative works from these two positions as part of his application.
Reyes submitted work produced for the Comstock Memorial Union, including photos of the three-dimensional miniature CMU he created to promote the services offered in the student union. He also submitted copies of the dining newsletters produced as an intern with MSUM Dining Services, a poster created for the Dragons After Dark Circus-themed orientation event, and a 3D animation produced as a class project.
“I’m very excited to apply everything I’ve learned at these jobs to my future career. It’s been very enjoyable and beneficial—it doesn’t seem like ‘work’ at all,” Reyes said.
Reyes will graduate with a B.S. in Graphic Communications emphasizing 3D Graphics in May 2013. His career goals include obtaining a position as a graphic designer and eventually becoming a CGI artist.
