Faculty Development Center updates

The Spring 2013 schedule of faculty development events has been released! Check out the opportunities and mark your calendars!

Here are the highlights; details can be found on the Faculty Development Center blog (link is on the “Faculty & Staff” webpage under the “Educational and Professional Development” heading).

1) We have posted session descriptions and online registration forms; please register for any sessions you would like to attend so that we have an estimate of the number of participants.

2) We view faculty development on this campus to be truly a collaborative effort. In this spirit, we are looking for volunteers to help facilitate specific sessions. Facilitators will have the option of forming a team and applying to become a Faculty Development Associate for the 2013-2014 academic year. Selected teams will be provided funding to attend a regional or national conference together and will facilitate a “community of practice” on our campus.

3) Department chairs can sign up to sponsor a free lunch/free conversation “open house” designed to encourage interaction across departments and colleges. There are four dates designated for this purpose, so the first departments to respond will be put on the schedule.

4) Seven different focus groups are scheduled to gather input from various populations of faculty members: fixed-term, adjunct, pre-tenure, post-tenure, chairs, researchers/scholars, and classroom innovators.

Finally, don’t forget to attend the Flipping the Classroom session this afternoon (2/15) from 2:30 – 3:15 in CMU 227!
