MSUM expects more than 400 students to graduate Thursday

MSUM will award degrees to 450 students during its fall commencement program Thursday, Dec. 15 at 1 p.m. in Nemzek Fieldhouse. About 300 students are expected to participate in the ceremony.

Retired Major General Larry Shellito will be the alumni speaker at commencement. Shellito earned his BA degree in business administration and accounting and BS in distributive education from MSU Moorhead, as well as his master’s in business education in 1979. Shellito received his Doctor of Education (EDD) from the University of Minnesota.

Major General Shellito started his service in the military in 1968, and in Jan. 2011 was appointed as the 17th Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs. He assists the state’s 380,000 veterans and their families.

Shellito also spent 31 years at Alexandria Technical College where he started as an instructor and advanced through a variety of administrative positions with his last nine years of service as the college’s president.

Minnesota State University Moorhead is a comprehensive regional university enrolling approximately 7,500 students. MSUM offers 76 undergraduate majors with 172 different emphases and options, 15 areas of pre-professional studies, 13 graduate degree programs, and 35 areas of teacher licensure preparation. MSU Moorhead is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.
